Rites of Passage and Nature Retreat for Girls- May 12-14, 2017

Manalapan Township, NJ

This weekend-long retreat will be about learning essential nature skills, wisdom of the ancestors, handcrafting, primitive firemaking and food preparation, shelter building, foraging. We will share deeply in a small group, discuss positive and practical information about the girls' changing bodies and the joy of stepping into womanhood. We will have mindful exercises, belly dancing and chanting, and make healthy food together. 

We will be situated in a woodland cabin heated by a woodburning stove in Monmouth County, NJ (Manalapan Township), among 250 acres of woodlands, nature trails, orienteering courses and streams. The program will be led by a group of mentors, teachers and apprentices affiliated with Antinanco Earth Arts School. 

PROGRAM


Friday

5:30pm check in. Directions will be provided by email after registration. Participants should be prepared to carry their gear from the parking lot to the cabin, its a short distance. Shuttle service may be available for an additional fee, please inquire by emailing at info@antinanco.org under Subject May Girls Retreat . Ride shares, toll and gas sharing are encouraged. 
5-6.30pm - orientation, introductions, set up, fire-safety.
7pm - dinner 
8pm - music, belly dancing, voice exericises, sharing circle, discussions. 
10pm - quiet time

Saturday
8am - breakfast
The day will be dedicated to learning essential nature, basic sustenance skills, and the wisdom of the ancestors. We will build a primitive shelter, identify and forage aromatic herbs, primitive firemaking and prepare our lunch over a fire.
6pm - dinner
At night, we will sit around the wood burning stove, make aromatherapy pillows with our foraged herbs and share deeply about . We will share deeply in a small group, discuss positive and practical information about the girls' changing bodies, self-confidence and the joy of stepping into womanhood. 


Sunday
8am - breakfast
We will be spending the morning and afternoon hiking through the nature trails and woodcrafting. 
1pm - lunch
2pm - concluding circle, pack up
3pm - dismissal. 

GROUP AND AGE
The group will be limited to 10 children, first registered, first in. Recommended age is 11-16.

WHAT TO EXPECT AND BRING
Participants should be prepared to spend a big part of the weekend outdoors. The list of suggested gear will be provided upon registration. Parents or Legal guardians must submit all required forms by May 8.

We have two scholarships available for 50% of admission.
