My twigs are reddish-brown, with small white lenticels or speckles. The buds are small, with just a few scales, and stick out from the stem at about 45 degree angle. They are usually pointed, or pyramid-shaped, and are hairless. Depending on the season, the buds can be red, orange, or yellow.
